Fox Fall Schedule: What's on the Move?

$

0

Fox is the latest network to unveil its Fall 2018 schedule, and there are some big changes.

The biggest of which is that 9-1-1 is moving from Wednesdays to Mondays at 9/8c.

The high-octane drama was a roaring success for the network when it debuted after Empire concluded its fall run.

Operator - 9-1-1 Season 1 Episode 1

It will take over from the freshly canceled Lucifer, and should have no trouble bolstering the ratings on the night.

The Resident will continue to kick off the Monday night line-up.

Related: Gotham Renewed for Final Season!

Meanwhile, Last Man Standing joins Fox, but it will be remaining on Friday nights like it has done for much of its ABC run.

It's a good move because the final season that aired on the night averaged 6.4 million viewers and a 1.2 rating among adults 18-49.

LMS 622A

Wouldn't it be hilarious if the show returned higher and even beat out the competition from ABC?

Last Man Standing will be used as a launching pad for new comedy series, The Cool Kids, which is just one of two new series on the fall schedule.

Related: Lucifer Canceled at Fox!

The other is REL, and that airs on Sundays in place of The Last Man on Earth.

Gotham will have to wait until later in the season to unspool its final season because of Thursday Night Football.

Then there's Tuesdays which has the bizarre pairing of The Gifted and Lethal Weapon. One show is a supernatural drama, and the other is procedural.

riggs lethal weapon

I suspect won't be much in the way of audience flowing between them, and one of them will be moved by November.

“This year, we launched four of the Top 10 new shows on broadcast, which led to a very strong roster of young series returning for their sophomore seasons. That gives us tremendous momentum heading into the fall,” said Gary Newman and Dana Walden.

“With our increased investment in football, we’re going to use the powerful platform of the NFL to launch our new comedies. We’ll then take some big swings with dramas at midseason, which is a proven strategy for FOX.”

All told, have a look at the full schedule below.

Family Guy Season 16 Episode 20 Review: Are You There God? It's Me, Peter

$
0
0

If I was stuck in an elevator with God, I'd probably ask Him some of the same questions Peter asked on Family Guy Season 16 Episode 20.

Of all the questions, Peter had, the most important one, I think, was whether or not we were just a computer simulation for a higher species.

That would answer a lot of questions about the weirdness of life.

Peter's In a Coma - Family Guy

But if our life was being run by a higher species, what would be the purpose of God, then? And that's exactly the point.

"Are You There God? It's Me, Peter" is a take on the novel "Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret" by Judy Blue about an 11-year old girl who is worried about her lack of religious affiliation because she is the child of an interfaith marriage.

Related: Family Guy Season 16 Episode 1 Review: Emmy-Winning Episode

Her family doesn't practice in either faith, and she's concerned that her lack of religious affiliation will affect her relationship with God.

Do you really need to be affiliated with a religion to have a relationship with God? Organized religion will have you believe that the only way through God is by being part of their group, but at the end of Family Guy Season 16 Episode 20 we're told by God himself,  that religion is only a "blind subservience to an imaginary being.

While in Peter's car, God makes reference to the fact that according to the Bible, he created for seven straight days but then after that it was only "killing, killing, killing."

It questions the idea of worshipping a God that is all about pain and suffering. Why create anything, only to destroy it later?

The Griffins aren't exactly the epitome of a God-fearing American family. If anything, and some feathers might get ruffled here, they are closer to the average American family than not.

Related: Enjoy UNLIMITED access to thousands of Movies and TV shows with Amazon Prime Video. WATCH ANYWHERE. CANCEL ANYTIME!

Maybe I'm not hanging around with the right people, because most of the people I know don't regularly attend church, and they seem pretty okay with it.

Whether or not they believe in God isn't a question that I've delved into with any of them, because, you know, religion and God is a touchy subject, and it's easier to just keep it off limits.

That is, unless I'm with my brother-in-law and his wife who are ultra Christians and always make sure to let everyone know that they are saved and the rest of us aren't.

I love that they are lucky enough to have such a direct line to God. Aren't you jealous?

What might be even more important to explore is how Peter ended up in the elevator with God in the first place.

I don't know about anyone else, but there have been plenty of times all I've done all weekend is sit on my couch and watch television and eat, getting up only to go to the bathroom.

I'm not sure, Peter even got up to use the bathroom which is why he ended up getting stuck to the couch. It wouldn't surprise me if he just decided to pee in a bottle just so he wouldn't have to get up at all.

Related: Killing Eve Season 1 Episode 7 Review: I Don't Want to Be Free

Him getting stuck in the doorway with Chris trying to help him maneuver through the door was another one of those Family Guy moments that went on a bit too long like the chicken fight scenes or the hurt knee scenes.

And while someone will call me out for trying to force logic on a cartoon, I do have to mention that it makes no sense for him to have gotten stuck getting out of the door when he obviously had no problem getting into the bedroom.

And while we're talking about logic -- I know this was a Peter-centric episode, but with the huge condom on the sidewalk joke, does this mean that Quagmire is over his penis transplant from Family Guy Season 16 Episode 19?

Will we ever revisit that or will it fade into Family Guy oblivion like Brian killing Rupert or Stewie talking to the school psychologist?

The best part of Peter's adventures with God was his visit to Fuddruckers. I actually didn't know Fuddruckers existed outside of Chicago (don't attack me for this) but Peter was right when he got angry at Chris for having a plain burger and Meg for eating chicken at a place whose specialty is burgers.

Who goes to Fuddruckers and eats a plain burger when there are so many options to jazz it up? Why waste money?

I'd be pissed too.

The funniest part was Peter going crazy with his burger toppings just to make a point. It was hilarious.

Peter: You were right about everything.
God: Say that again.
Peter: You were right about everything.
God: That's all I needed to hear. That's what religion is. It's not about being good or bad. It's just blind subservience to an imaginary being.

Overall, Family Guy Season 16 was a mixed bag. There were some really out-there and dumb episodes (the Stewie and psychologist one comes to mind -- I hated it) and some really great ones (the Emmy-winning episode and the one where Brian attacked Rupert).

"Are You There God? It's Me, Peter" fell in the middle. It wasn't a horrible episode, but it also wasn't one of the best of the season. It opened the door to conversation about the existence of God and on the relevance of organized religion and wasn't afraid to question any of it.

Over to you.

Did Peter's latest plan push his body too far?

That was revealed on Family Guy Season 16 Episode 20 when the overweight family patriarch slipped into a coma and had to contend with his life decisions.

Peter also met up with God during his time out of it and was given a task that could change the course of his life for the better.

Did Peter finally realize that he needed to strive for change?

Fox Sets Fall Premiere Dates for 9-1-1, Empire & More!

Fox is the latest network to confirm when it will be kicking off its fall 2018 schedule, and it sure looks to be sticking to the norm.

New comedy series, REL will bow first in early September with a post-NFL preview in an attempt to give the series ample sampling ahead of its regularly scheduled debut in late September.

9-1-1 is similarly getting an early debut on Sundays out of the NFL, before moving to Mondays the following night out of The Resident Season 2.

Athena and Hen - 9-1-1 Season 1 Episode 7

The early preview for 9-1-1 Season 2 is unsurprising. It was one of the surprise success stories of the 2017-18 season. 9-1-1 Season 1 averaged a 3.0 rating in the demo, so it's a big deal for the network.

As previously reported, Thursday Night Football will air on the network in the fall, meaning multiple shows are missing from the schedule at the moment.

13 Excellent Partners in Crime Duos

$

What's the fun in creating chaos if you have to do it alone? Whether it's actual detective work or just crazy shenanigans, everything's better when you have a partner in crime.

Some characters may be polar opposites, others may be exactly alike, but something about the combination of the two makes them the perfect team.

We've created a slideshow of duos who we think are extremely entertaining partners in crime.

1. Shawn and Gus - Psych

Shawn and gus psych
Shawn and Gus were BFF goals. They might have ended up in some insane (and hilarious) situations, but they always managed to come out of it even stronger than before.

2. Raj and Howard - The Big Bang Theory

Raj and howard
Ever since the beginning of the series, these two have been joined at the hip. No matter what type of mess they get themselves into, they always have each other.

3. Jake and Charles - Brooklyn Nine-Nine

Jake and charles brooklyn nine nine
Considering that these two are actual cops, you would think partners in crime may not be the best way to describe them. However, these two get themselves into so many crazy situations that it's easy to forget they're some of Brooklyn's finest detectives.

4. Liz and Tracy - 30 Rock

Liz and tracy 30 rock
Every time these two have a scene together we end up laughing our asses off. A crime show staring Liz and Tracy would most certainly be an entertaining watch.

5. Seth and Ryan - The O.C.

Seth and ryan the oc
These two besties always had each other's backs no matter the consequences. What more could you ask for in a partner in crime?

6. Stiles and Lydia - Teen Wolf

Stiles and lydia teen wolf
Stiles and Lydia are a detective duo we'll always love. Their sassy personalities matched with their intelligence made them an unforgettable pair. And of course, watching them fall in love was fun too.

19 Needless TV Deaths That Made Us Question Everything

$

0

Death in television is inevitable. Practically every TV show from The Walking Dead to Sesame Street has addressed the topic in some sort of way.

The death of a fan favorite TV show character is always painful to watch, but sometimes they make sense. They add to the overall story being told, and the character's legacy is never forgotten throughout the course of the show's run.

Related: Get HBO via Prime Video Channels for Addictive Dramas, Hilarious Comedies & Hit Movies!

Yet, some shows decide to kill off a character without any real reason behind it. The loss of that character didn't progress any storylines and it for sure didn't make the show any better. In fact, these needless TV deaths just pissed fans off and had them questioning why they even watch the show.

You would think showrunners would have learned by now. Don't kill off our favorite TV characters unless there is a very valid reason for it. But somehow every year it keeps happening.

Be warned; this is bound to trigger anger and resentment for television shows that you thought you had forgiven. Also, make sure to share your picks for the most needless TV deaths in the comments below.

1. Glenn Rhee (The Walking Dead)

Glenn waits in line the walking dead s7e1
Glenn's death was super sad, but it seemed like it was going to pay off by the end of the season. Rick and Co. would get their comeuppance, and the show would grow in the process. Two seasons later and none of that has happened and doesn't look likely to happen. The Negan storyline continues to drag on, despite how boring it has become. New characters that nobody cares about continue to be introduced and The Walking Dead is just not as popular as it once was. This can all be retraced back to the death of Glenn. His death has now become meaningless, and the show has lost fans because of this poor decision. Glenn deserved better!

2. Abbie Mills (Sleepy Hollow)

2 abbie mills sleepy hollow
There wasn't a lot of diversity in the sci-fi/fantasy genre before Sleepy Hollow. That's why so many people were excited when the character of Abbie Mills was introduced to the world. A black female lead in a fantasy show is a rare commodity. It was an exciting time, but after a couple of seasons, Sleepy Hollow's use of Abbie began to frustrate fans. And just when it looked like the show was finally going to give Abbie a good story to tell again, she was killed off. She supposedly served her purpose by helping Ichabod. Abbie's death destroyed any chance of the show surviving. Sleepy Hollow only had one more season before the show got canceled. A leading lady should never be treated the way Abbie was.

3. Leslie Shay (Chicago Fire)

4 leslie shay chicago fire
Dick Wolf loves killing off major characters; it's just what he does. However, no Chicago Fire fans saw this one coming. The Season 2 cliffhanger saw a building that had all our favorites from Firehouse 51 inside explode. Fans knew a character was going to be killed off, but no one thought it would be Shay, especially because she was one of two women in the male-dominated cast and the only LGBT character on the show. When the show came back for Season 3 and fans found out it was Shay that died in the explosion, they were outraged. It didn't help that after just a few episodes, Shay had become an afterthought. The rest of the characters moved on from her death and never looked back. Yet, fans are still angry, and four seasons later, the show still hasn't found someone that's been able to replace this beloved character.

4. Anya Jenkins (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)

5 anya jenkins buffy the vampire slayer
Although Anya just started off as a one-episode "demon of the day," she ended up coming back and became a fan favorite. She and Xander's relationship became a focal point in the last few seasons of the show and helped them both grow as characters. When Anya rejoins the Scooby Gang in the final season, fans were hopeful that she and Xander would reconcile. That did not happen. Anya was abruptly killed in the series finale, and very little was made of it for the remainder of the episode. Not only were fans upset that Anya and Xander never got their happily ever after but they were also angry that Anya was killed without any fanfare.

5. Poussey Washington (Orange is the New Black)

16 poussey washington orange is the new black
The number of black LBGT television characters can probably be counted on one or two hands. Poussey was one of the first representatives of this community on television, so Orange is the New Black fans had every right to be upset when she was killed off in the fourth season. The show tried to defend its decision to kill off the beloved character by saying they wanted to draw attention to the serious problem of prison and police brutality towards the black community. With a show consisting of so many characters, the same story could've been told without killing off a character who meant so much to so many people.

6. Robin Hood (Once Upon a Time)

6 robin hood once upon a time
Regina just couldn't catch a break. Even though she was supposed to be an evil character, in the beginning, Regina became a fan favorite right away. Once Upon A Time fans wanted to see her find love and after seasons of waiting for it to happen, she finally found it. Robin Hood was someone who could match Regina in every way. Outlaw Queen faced so many obstacles throughout their courtship including him accidentally getting her sister pregnant (it's a long story) but they managed to overcome it all. Just when it looked like Regina would finally get her happily ever after, Robin was killed by Hades. It was devastating and an unnecessary blow to fans of the show. There was so much more to explore in the Robin and Regina relationship, and it was ruined by this moment. Team Outlaw Queen Forever!

That paved the way for Brian to make a surprising decision:

13 TV Characters Who Need to Bury the Hatchet

$

Good conflicts between television characters are always worth tuning in to see, but sometimes the stories just drag out way too long for our tastes.

In some cases, the fights and disagreements between characters don't even make sense and are ones we don't even want to be witness to.

Related: Get True Crime Files by ID via Prime Video Channels for Over 1,000 Real-life Mystery & Suspense Shows!

In other cases, the olive branch extending may just be temporary, but we'd rather see it be permanent because, after all, who wants to live their lives in perpetual disagreement?

Here are a few characters we think should bury the hatchet once and for all!

1. Red and Liz - The Blacklist

Red and liz the blacklist
At the end of The Blacklist Season 5, Liz had (once again) turned on Red. This time it was for a more serious reason -- he's not really Raymond Reddington, but the fact that he's possibly an imposter shouldn't overshadow the fact that the two have been through so much together. She's depended on him more than she probably wants to admit, and for her to team up with Jennifer, a woman she doesn't even know is bothersome. Although we know Liz and Red's new dynamic is the basis of what Season 6 will focus on, we'd rather see these two happy like they were at the beginning of Season 5. Dancing by the pool? We'll take more of that, please!

2. The Riddler and Penguin - Gotham

The riddler and penguin gotham
We hope that when The Riddler is revived by Dr. Strange that the memories he retains of Oswald will be of the good times they had together instead of the nasty stuff that came later. These two are powerhouses who can wreak more havoc together than they can apart. Isabella should be a distant memory in Ed's mind, and while we realize Nygmobblepot may never become a reality, we can always hope!

3. Debbie and Ruth - GLOW

Debbie and ruth glow
It all started when Debbie found out Ruth was sleeping with her husband. That's a pretty bad thing to do to your best friend, but Ruth realized her mistake and tried to repair her friendship. It's understandable that Debbie wasn't interested, but, as she soon found out, Mark wasn't a keeper anyway. Debbie may never completely get over the betrayal, but she needs to realize that she and Ruth make a great team -- both in and out of the ring.

4. Brian and Quagmire - Family Guy

Brian and quagmire family guy
We have to agree with Quagmire that there are many reasons to hate Brian, but Quagmire needs to realize that he's no saint, either. He needs to get over Brian sleeping with his dad because Brian had no clue. And as far as being a bore, maybe Quagmire could teach Brian a few things and become Brian's mentor. Think of all the fun those two could have if they would set aside their differences and realize they're much more alike than not.

5. Tom and Jerry - Tom and Jerry

Tom and jerry
These two have had a love/hate relationship for decades that needs to come to an end. Jerry takes great pleasure in tormenting Tom and vice-a-versa, but there are many more benefits when they actually work together like enjoying a bowl of milk or a great, big ham. They'd be better off channeling their efforts to get rid of Spike who is just a big bully anyway.

6. Liv and Major - iZombie

Liv and major izombie
On-again, off-again gets boring after a while which is why these two need to come to terms with their differences and be who they're supposed to be -- a couple. Maybe we'll get our wish as the series heads into its final season.

Fox Cheat Sheet: Lethal Weapon Is Likely Dead

$

There are a lot of changes coming to Fox in the coming months.

With an increased reliance on sports programming, it makes it difficult to assess which shows will be coming back during the 2019-2020 TV season.

Related: CBS Cheat Sheet: Is Criminal Minds Really in Danger?!

But there are two shows pulling in ratings low enough to rule them dead shows airing, and we've rounded up how we think Fox's renewals and cancellations will play out based on a variety of factors.

Have a look below.

1. Lethal Weapon - Likely Cancellation

Lethal weapon season 3 leads
This Fox drama cannot catch a break. Just months after ousting Clayne Crawford, Damon Wayans announced his intention to quit the series following the 13-episode third season.

However, he later came to an agreement with Fox to continue with the series for an additional two episodes.

The ratings are down 25 percent in the demo year-to-year to a mere 0.7 rating.

It does still pack a punch in delayed viewing, but the show is not owned by Fox and is performing well below the network's average. Add in the fact that there's a constant stream of negative press surrounding it, it's likely done. Look at these final two episodes as a quick wrap up.

2. The Gifted - Could Go Either Way

The gifted season 2 promotional photo
The Gifted is averaging just 2.2 million viewers and a 0.7 rating. It still gets a boost on the DVR front and is owned by Fox.

It might be able to scrape by but any more slippage and it will definitely be canceled.

3. Rel - Certain Cancellation

Rel certain cancellation
This new Fox comedy is not resonating with viewers. It started at a 1.9 rating in the demo thanks to a football lead-in but has slipped as low as a 0.5 rating.

It will likely be ousted from the schedule in the coming weeks.

4. The Resident - Certain Renewal

Love and affection the resident s2e4
The Resident is stable vs. its first season in the demo with a 1.0 rating. In fact, it's one of the steadiest shows on television. Fox recently ordered more episodes for Season 2, citing the strong ratings.

It builds 70 percent with DVR factored in, so it's hard to imagine the network not wanting another season.

5. Family Guy - Certain Renewal

The shrinking machine
Family Guy is still posting solid ratings, with the current season averaging a 1.1 rating in the demo.

6. Bob's Burgers - Certain Renewal

Bobs burgers certain renewal
This hit comedy is up year-to-year. With a 1.1 rating in the demo it's a lock for another season.

Family Guy Pays Tribute to Carrie Fisher With Emotional Eulogy

Family Guy finally addressed the death of Carrie Fisher on Family Guy Season 17 Episode 9, which aired Sunday night on Fox.

Fisher voiced the role of Angela, Peter's boss at the Pawtucket Brewery and the installment revealed that Angela passed away from swimming 20 minutes after she had eaten.

At the funeral, Peter wastes no time in poking fun at other TV show theme songs before getting emotional about the whole situation.

"That was Angela: fearless, spontaneous, honest about herself, just as much as she was about the world around her," he said as it became apparent he was talking about Fisher as opposed to Angela.

"She had grace, courage, and an unmatched zest for life. She may be gone, but her voice will live on in DVD and Hulu Plus and tiny droid-projected messages."

"I may have lost a boss, but heaven has gained a princess.”

“Angela died doing what she loved — swimming less than 20 minutes after she had eaten,” Peter said of the way Angela passed, adding, “That’s a real thing, kids. Listen to your mothers.”

While it may seem odd to wait this long to address the death of Fisher, we need to remember that Family Guy has a long production schedule, so it was impossible to implement anything into the storyline straight away.

That's likely why the show dedicated its 2017 midseason premiere to Fisher, who has appeared as Angela sporadically since 2005.

Fisher died of a heart attack in December 2016.
