Family Guy Season 16 Episode 11 Review: Dog Bites Bear

Three hundred episodes are quite an accomplishment.

As sad as it was to watch Rupert "die" on Family Guy Season 16 Episode 11, wouldn't it be nice to have the same sort of eloquent send-off at its end?

We all know it's coming. Before long we'll be saying goodbye to Family Guy just like Stewie will eventually say goodbye to Rupert forever.

Together Again - Family Guy Season 16 Episode 11

And like Stewie, we might not be able to handle it, but we'll get through it. The only difference is that, for us, Family Guy will reappear in reruns.

I don't know much about The Fast and the Furious movies, so there are references I probably missed.

And, no, I didn't miss the ending with Paul Walker riding off into the great beyond with Rupert. Nor the joke that the movies don't really have a plot.

That aside, "Dog Bites Bear" mostly centered on the friendship between Stewie and Brian which became fractured after Brian mauled Rupert in a drunken fit.

Stewie never stays mad at Brian for long, and it was funny that Stewie thought the true break of their friendship was when he unfollowed Brian on social media.

Despite that move, it didn't take long for Brian to get back into Stewie's good graces. There's a bond between those two that will always exist even when Brian finally does cross over the Rainbow Bridge.

Stewie may never remember Rupert, but Brian will stay with him forever. Still, Rupert is an important part of Stewie's life, and it may very well be that the teddy bear will always hold a special place in Stewie's heart.

Over the Rainbow - Family Guy Season 16 Episode 11

That's why it was so difficult for Stewie to come to terms with Brian having destroyed Rupert. His best friend killing his other best friend was a raw deal. It makes sense that Brian did it out of jealousy. Who can really control themselves when they are drunk?

I can just imagine a drunk Brian coming home and seeing Rupert sitting on the couch "watching" the movie all by himself, and Brian losing it. It's not something he would have done sober, but who hasn't done something stupid when they're drunk?

Brian knew he was in the wrong, and while he tried to make excuses for what he did, he tried to make amends almost immediately; like any dog would, I guess.

I liked that Brian decided to follow Stewie to Vermont. Sometimes Brian can be stubborn, and considering his feelings about Rupert, this could have been one of those times, but Brian stepped out of his usual ways and put Stewie's feelings first.

Brian proved to Stewie that he is his best friend. Brian carried him to the top of the mountain, said a eulogy when asked, and went above and beyond when he bought Stewie the new Rupert.

It was all very touching.

The two pals have been through many adventures together. They love each other and are truly each other's best friend. They go together like Peaches and Cream and Starsky and Hutch. You can't have one without the other.

Refusing to Wash - Family Guy

While Stewie and Brian were exploring their friendship, Peter met a cereal idol. Out of all the monster cereals, I would probably have to agree that Boo Berry is the best. FrankenBerry is a close second.

Count Chocula is a whatever. There's nothing special about his chocolate-flavored cereal. Cocoa Pebbles, or even Cocoa Puffs are better choices anyway.

What I liked best about this story was the micro life that was growing on Peter's hand. For some reason it reminded me of an episode of The Orville that I can't remember the name of now.

But it also made me think about the people who save things celebrities have touched just because a celebrity had touched it. How gross is that? But more importantly, what kind of bozo has a cereal idol?

I loved that Lois is in a group chat with the guys, and their plan to get Peter to wash his hand was brilliant. I'm sure it was Lois' idea since she's the only smart one in that whole group.

Cleveland playing Count Chocula was funny, but I would have loved to have seen the three guys dressed up as Snap, Crackle, and Pop. Still, them just talking about it made me chuckle.

Were you impressed with the show's 300th episode? Did you like "Dog Bites Bear"?

Are you happy Rupert is still alive or should Stewie give him up already?

Why did Brian kill Rupert?

That was the big question on Family Guy Season 16 Episode 11 when the dog went to extreme measures to get under Stewie's skin.

In the process, the two had the biggest fight of their lives, but was it all a misunderstanding?

Meanwhile, Peter was ridiculed by his family when he refused to wash his hands ever again after meeting a celebrity he aspired to be like.

Did the family find a way to help change his mind?

13 Reasons to Get Excited for the Super Bowl to End

TV show characters? They're just like us.

They fall in love, get their hearts broken, battle intergalactic creatures and obviously gather round with their loved ones for the Big Game.

But with the Super Bowl being such a significant national moment — a "holy" day if you will — TV shows don't seem to be capitalizing on it too much.

There's the usual fight for who will score the most coveted post-Super Bowl slot — one that comes with a large number of viewers. This year, the honor goes to This Is Us as they undoubtedly reveal the series' biggest mystery: the death of Jack Pearson.

But, as far as episodes simply celebrating the Super Bowl? Those a few and far between.

We've dug up some of our favorite Super Bowl-themed episodes that will allow you to kick back with your buddies and get pumped for Sunday.

You'll enjoy these, no matter what team you're rooting for.

Warning: one of them will even make you sob uncontrollably.

1. This Is Us - That'll Be the Day (2018)

This is us thatll be the day
I'll start with the most recent episode of This Is Us. Jack and Rebecca geared up for their final Super Bowl with the Big Three before they leave for college. But, instead of familial bonding, the day is filled with fights and teenage angst. Eventually, the teens all chose to watch the game elsewhere. The episode ends with a fire at the Pearson household, which we know inevitably leads to Jack's death. The continuation of this horrible, terrible, no good, very bad episode airs RIGHT after this Sunday's Super Bowl so please, have your Terrible Towels ready.

2. Everybody Loves Raymond - Super Bowl (2001)

Everybody loves raymond super bowl 2001
Ray discovers he's getting sent to cover the Super Bowl. He invites Gianni, which doesn't sit well with Debra. Or the other family members. She gives him hell and when he realizes everyone else brought their wives, he flies her out, which makes things even worse. Point of the story? If you get Super Bowl tickets, always bring your wife, your dad, or your brother!

3. Full House - Super Bowl Funday (1995)

Full house super bowl funday 1995
Taking it back to the good ole' Full House days! Joey returns home from a two-week comedy tour to watch the Super Bowl with the fam. Those plans are derailed when he realizes he promised to take Michelle's class on a museum tour. In an attempt not to miss the game, he and Jesse bring the kids to a bar, but when the TVs break down, they invite everyone back to the house, interrupting DJ's study session.

4. The Simpsons - Sunday, Cruddy Sunday (1999)

The simpsons sunday cruddy sunday 1999
The Simpsons have plenty of Super Bowl TV episodes to choose from, but I'll go with 'Sunday, Cruddy Sunday' in which Homer and some pals score tickets to the Super Bowl. The good times come to a halt when they are told their tickets are counterfeit. Bart devises a plan to sneak in but as you'd imagine, sneaking into such a prestigious event isn't as easy as it seems.

5. Seinfeld - The Label Maker (1995)

Seinfeld the label maker 1995
Jerry realizes that he has a wedding the same day as the Super Bowl so he gifts his tickets to Whatley, his dentist. Then the worst possible thing happens: the wedding is called off. Jerry tries to get his tickets back, but Whatley already invited Newman and then later, Elaine. Does he ever re-gift the tickets back to Jerry?

6. Boy Meets World - The Eskimo (1998)

Boy meets world the eskimo 1998
In an attempt to teach them a valuable lesson, Mr. Feeney assigns Corey, Topanga and Shawn an impossible homework assignment: score tickets to the Super Bowl. The trio eventually learn the lesson and pass the life-test but not before a handful of shenanigans ensue.

Fox Cheat Sheet: The Resident, Gotham & More Could Be Canceled

We're now into 2018 and the fate of some of Fox's series is becoming clearer.

Some of the newer series have emerged as rare success stories, but some of them have failed to garner much traction.

Below, we've rounded up Fox's roster of shows as well as what we think the network will do with them.

1. Empire - Certain Renewal

Empire certain renewal
Empire has been trending downward since Season 2. Season 4 is off 30 percent vs. last season. It is averaging 5.8 million viewers and a 1.9 rating among adults 18-49. The show gets a decent boost of almost 60 percent with 7 days of DVR factored in, but the continued erosion has to be concerning for Fox. It still has a long way left to fall before being in any danger.

2. The Simpsons - Renewed

The simpsons renewed
The Simpsons has benefited from a football lead-in multiple times this season. It is currently averaging 4.6 million viewers and a 1.9 rating among adults 18-49. It has already been renewed!

3. 9-1-1 Renewed

9 1 1 renewed
9-1-1 has been the surprise hit of the year. It is averaging 6.3 million viewers and a 1.7 rating. It gets a sizeable bump on the DVR front, and Fox has already renewed it.

4. Star - Certain Renewal

Star certain renewal
Fox gifted Star with a post-Empire slot this season and the show is currently up in the ratings. It is averaging 4.2 million viewers and a 1.4 rating. The show gets a modest boost on the DVR front, but its live ratings will keep it around.

5. The Orville - Renewed

The orville renewed
Fox took a risk with this new Seth McFarlane series and it paid off. Season 1 is averaging 4.5 million viewers and a 1.3 rating. The show more than doubles when DVR ratings are factored in. It's such a hit that it has already snagged a renewal!

6. Bob's Burgers - Certain Renewal

Bobs burgers certain renewal
Bob's Burgers is up double digits this season. It is averaging 3.1 million viewers and a 1.4 rating among adults 18-49. With a feature length move in the works, the series will stick around.

Family Guy Season 16 Episode 12 Review: Send in Stewie, Please

$

0

I have only one thing to say about Family Guy Season 16 Episode 12: WTF?!

Unfortunately, I have to come up with more things to say than that, but if I could write this review the way I want, it would consist of 750 WTF's because I don't think I've ever watched a Family Guy episode so absolutely horrid.

What, exactly, was the point of this "limited commercial" installment? Why were we tortured with incessant talking that had no point?

And did we really wait how long for this piece of crap?

Stewie Sees a Psychologist - Family Guy

We don't find out why Stewie had to see the school psychologist until almost the end. He apparently did something that is totally Stewie: he pushed a classmate down the stairs.

With all the things Stewie has done in his short life, how come it's taken the adults until now to realize he probably should be seeing someone? They never noticed Stewie's odd behavior before.

I feel like I'm completely missing something.

Related: Family Guy Season 16 Episode 6 Review: The D in Apartment 23

So we learn that Stewie's persona is all fake, but is that really surprising because it's not a shocker to me. Or maybe I just didn't care that Stewie's real voice wasn't anything like his fake voice.

It was stupid that the doctor claimed he couldn't tell a difference between any of Stewie's voices or even that he didn't hear Stewie's British accent.

While I hated every minute of "Send in Stewie, Please", it was fun to hear Seth MacFarlane go through all of his Family Guy voices and throw in Roger from American Dad.

That millisecond was the only bright spot in this twenty-minute mess. Perhaps the reason why it ran with "limited commercials" was so that the pain could end quicker because I saw no point in running it that way.

Freeing His Mind - Family Guy Season 16 Episode 12

There was nothing that compelled me to want to sit and watch any of it. Most of it was Stewie analyzing Dr. Pritchfield, and it was an agonizingly long analysis.

Why would I even care about this doctor? Was I supposed to be amazed at Stewie's amazing mind?

I love Stewie. He's the best character on Family Guy, but after this fiasco, it's evident that Stewie needs to be interacting with someone (preferably Brian) or doing something (like building a time machine) in order for him to be the least bit interesting.

Related: Family Guy Season 16 Episode 7 Review: Petey IV

Him just talking nonstop about a character no one cares about was worthless. I imagine someone will say that his analysis of Pritchfield gave us insight into his own character, but all I have to say to that is kudos to whoever could stay focused on what was being said.

I started tuning out rather quickly because it just seemed pointless. Why should I care about the doctor's relationship with his boyfriend?

Was Family Guy trying to make another statement about homosexuality? If there was a message to be had, sorry, I missed it.

And what was with the boogers coming out of Stewie's nose when he was doing his bit from Hamilton? Was it supposed to be funny, because it wasn't funny. Even for a cartoon, it was gross.

Best Friends Forever - Family Guy Season 16 Episode 12

Maybe if it happened in a different episode, it would be funny, but watching a bubble of booger and then a long droop of booger fly out of Stewie's nose was just stupid.

I wish there was a picture of that stupidity because I'd post it in this review so you all could look at it. I would have liked to have shared the stupid love.

Related: Family Guy Season 16 Episode 11 Review: Dog Bites Bear

What else was really stupid was Stewie letting the doctor die because the doctor witnessed Stewie's true self. Stewie can be evil, but would he really let a guy die because said guy heard Stewie's real voice?

How dumb. The whole thing was dumb.

Worst Family Guy episode EVER.

Over to you guys.

What did you think of "Send in Stewie, Please"? Did you feel like banging your head against the wall?

Did you actually watch the entire episode? How soon before you changed the channel?

If you were one of the few (are there really people out there who liked it?), please share with me what you liked about it.

Were you surprised by Stewie's real voice? Did he really let the doctor die, or was it all a dream?

That was the big question on Family Guy Season 16 Episode 12 when the youngster made his way to therapy.

Family Guy Season 16 Episode 13 Review: V is for Mystery

$
0
0

It was a little odd when Peter interrupted the middle of Family Guy Season 16 Episode 13 to tell the audience that Family Guy would return to normal next week.

I have to wonder if that was initially part of the episode or if it was added in because while "V is for Mystery" wasn't nearly as bad as Family Guy Season 16 Episode 12, it still left a lot to be desired.

Was the show trying to assuage its audience?

Victorian Era Detectives - Family Guy

Maybe Family Guy is just trying out different things to test audience reaction. Perhaps the powers that be think we're all bored with the same old dysfunctional episodes week after week.

Maybe it's the powers that be who are getting bored.

Maybe what the powers that be need to do is cut the cord instead of trying to reinvent the wheel that none of us are interested in watching be reinvented.

It reminds me of Scooby Doo and its different incarnations to appeal to new audiences. It just didn't work. There's nothing like the classic.

The only incarnation that even came close was Be Cool Scooby Doo, and that series was like an homage to the classic because their monsters were very similar to the monsters from the originals.

Related: Supernatural Photos from "Scoobynatural"

Stewie and Brian playing Sherlock Holmes and John Watson was interesting. I can't say fun because I'm not that into British mysteries. Many of them are way too dry for my taste.

But Stewie as Sherlock Holmes fits his personality. At least his detailed description of how he solved his mysteries made sense (and consistent with the classic Holmes), unlike the garbage he spewed to the school psychologist on "Send in Stewie, Please."

There were plenty of classic jokes to fit into this "classic" episode.

Peter, the Killer - Family Guy Season 16 Episode 13

I especially enjoyed the reference to the Tom Hanks classic movie,  "Big" when Stewie and Brian played "Heart and Soul" via the bagpipes stuck in the gut of the dead hooker.

And I loved, loved, loved, the whole Love Boat reference. I even snickered at the chimney cleaners bit.

What wasn't funny was Cosby as the court jester. Why even give that guy any attention -- even in the form of a slam on a show like Family Guy?

Why bother going down that road?

Related: Family Guy Season 14 Episode 10 Review: Candy, Quahog Marshmallow

Even back in the old days, Stewie was as resourceful as ever. He made a crazy hooker robot that unfortunately was "killed" by Lois, but how come no one noticed that his genius extended beyond solving murders?

I don't know about anyone else, but it was easy to figure out that Lois was the culprit, but who guessed that Peter was, indeed, the Scottish Brute?

Holmes was right when he put Peter away, but Peter was clever to get Lois to do his dirty work so that he would get released from prison. That's a big surprise because Peter is far from being bright, but in a British mystery, even the crazy murderers have brains.

Goodbye, Lois - Family Guy Season 16 Episode 13

While the story was slow-moving and dry, the opening credit artwork was really fun. My favorite was Stewie holding the magnifying glass and the beam from the sun burning Brian's bottom. I also liked Brian chasing after the bubbles.

I always laugh at Brian because he tries so hard to be a sophisticated "human" but can't escape the fact that underneath it all, he is still a dog. Even when Stewie was operating his robot hooker, instead of being there to witness Constance trying to kill the robot, he was in the alley chasing rats, because, well, that's what dogs do.

Related: Family Guy Season 16 Episode 11 Review: Dog Bites Bear

We didn't quite get an answer as to why hookers with names starting with "V" were getting killed unless I missed it which is always a possibility because sometimes Family Guy packs so much in it's easy for some stuff to get overlooked.

And to be honest, I don't care what the reason was. "V is for Mystery" may not have been the best episode of Family Guy, but if you look past the dryness of the story, there were many enjoyable parts.

And even if you hated it, you still have to admit that much of the animation was quite beautiful. I wouldn't mind hanging some of those pieces in my TV room.

Over to you guys.

What did you think of "V is for Mystery"? Did you appreciate the AIDS and Cosby jokes? Did you figure out who the killer was? Did you even care?

Did Stewie and Brian manage to solve a string of murders?

That was their plan on Family Guy Season 16 Episode 13 when the duo made their way to a Victorian-esque London.

However, nothing could prepare them for the body count and the subsequent game of cat and mouse that awaited them.

Also, Brian tried to learn more details about what went on with Stewie when he was at the therapist.

Family Guy Season 16 Episode 14 Review: The Veteran Guy

$

Peter has a long history of stupidity and on Family Guy Season 16 Episode 14 he continues that history when he picks up a cap at the thrift store that causes people to think he's a veteran.

He tried to tell people the truth but they just wouldn't listen. Because the cap was so cool and after realizing there were perks being a veteran, he decided to keep pretending -- even convincing the guys to pretend along with him.

Quagmire Leads the Way - Family Guy Season 16 Episode 14

It was a stupid idea and that's pretty much Peter's trademark.

The funniest thing about the whole situation was that he wasn't even wearing a legitimate veteran's cap anyway.

He was wearing a hat from the fictional Nathan James, and the person who called him out on it was none other than Eric Dane (guest voice as himself) aka Captain Tom Chandler from the hit TNT series The Last Ship.

Related: The Last Ship Review: The Battle to Save Humanity

Quagmire could have abandoned his idiot friends when they were forced to join the Coast Guard as punishment for violating the Stolen Valor Act, but he joined right along with them mostly because he thought it'd be a good experience for them.

He should have known that they'd take this about as seriously as they take everything else which is not serious at all. The scene of them doing their basic training was hilarious.

The Coast Guard Boys

The best part of this whole installment was that Quagmire ended up being the hero -- the true veteran of the group who sometimes doesn't get the credit he deserves.

Most just want to blast him for being a pervert, but Glenn is one outstanding dude.

Even in the face of frustration, he came back to save his friends -- not once, but twice. If it wasn't for him, there would have been a disaster on the boat and all those kids would have died either from gunfire (how the hell did a group of frat boys get a van full of guns anyway -- should we delve into that?) or the bomb.

Related: The Terror: 7 Things to Know About the Premiere

Glenn doesn't get the credit he deserves. This is isn't the first time he been the most sensible one of the group. If you think about it, he's also the most successful of them all.

The guy's an airplane pilot for crying out loud. They're lucky he's even hanging out with them at all because not only is he above their pay grade, he's above their brain grade as well.

Captain Peter? - Family Guy Season 16 Episode 14

You would have thought that the idea of guarding a bunch hot spring break girls would have put Quagmire in overdrive, but instead, he was focused on the job at hand and trying to get his friends to take their new responsibility seriously.

It was refreshing to see Glenn not trying to get giggity with it because he's so much more than just a 24/7 sex machine.

Related: The Arrangement Season 2 Episode 4 Review: Scene 23

Hell, the guy can do anything, and he would do anything for anyone. Isn't that true for all the guys? Except maybe Cleveland. He's pretty much all about himself, and he's a faker.

What kind of idiot has to pretend he's not shopping at a thrift store when he runs into someone he knows. Smart people go thrift shopping (do you know the amount of name brand clothing you can find at thrift stores?!) so that tells you everything you need to know about Cleveland.

I just don't like the character. There's nothing redeemable about the guy. I can't think of one positive he's contributed to any part of Family Guy.

If I'm mistaken, please enlighten me because I just don't see it.

Saving the Day - Family Guy Season 16 Episode 14

I loved the Olive Garden cutaway. I used to be a big Olive Garden fan, but now I find it as disgusting as Peter and the gang found it after eating too many endless pasta bowls. It's surprising that even Peter has a limit, but isn't that the case with anything?

Still, it was hilarious watching them go from robusto to disgusto.

Over to you guys!

What did you think of "The Veteran Guy"? Are you glad Peter is back with his stupid antics or would you like to see more experimental episodes?

Family Guy Season 16 Episode 15 Review: The Woof of Wall Street

Brian almost became a protein shake on Family Guy Season 16 Episode 15 when he let his new investment career get to his head.

Stewie might have been disappointed that Brian still wanted to invest in Korea after learning it used dog meat in its shakes, but there was no way Stewie was going to let anything happen to his friend.

Dog Meat Brian - Family Guy Season 16 Episode 15

And even after Stewie saved his ass, Brian didn't understand the lesson to be learned. It had nothing to do with the evils of Wall Street, just like Stewie said. The lesson that went right over Brian's head was how selfish the family dog really is.

He was willing to invest in a company that killed his own kind for profit. It didn't matter to him that the dogs were being treated inhumanely, all he cared about was the money he was going to make.

Related: Family Guy Season 14 Episode 10 Review: Candy, Quahog Marshmallow

Brian made a comment about not judging other people's cultures, and we should delve it into that for a minute.

We find it offensive that an animal we look to as a pet is used as a source of food. How can anyone want to eat something as cute as Fido?

Stewie: I can't believe you still want to invest in this. They use dog meat. How can you condone the eating of other dogs?
Brian: Oh, c'mon, Stewie, it's their way. Who are we to judge other cultures?

In other cultures, cows are considered sacred. Yet, here in the U.S., we have no problems chomping down on a juicy steak or burger without a second thought.

Riding a Unicorn - Family Guy Season 16 Episode 15

But we look at those dogs in those cages with their sad eyes, and we immediately call that industry deplorable. Have you ever seen a cow's eyes?

They're adorable, yet that's not what we see when we dig into our burger or steak because all the dirty work has already been done for us.

Related: Family Guy Season 16 Episode 13 Review: V is for Mystery

That cute cow isn't reflected in that package of beef we picked up at the grocery store.

There aren't warriors posting videos all over social media showing us the horrors of how our meat is made. (I'm sure there are videos but they are minimal compared to all the videos of dogs being saved from meat markets.)

Stewie, adults are allowed to say racist things because of traffic.

Brian

So, Brian was right about this one. As much as we try to deny it, it is a matter of perspective and culture. Who are we to judge other people's culture?

Tricking James Cameron - Family Guy Season 16 Episode 15

Aside from the dog eating controversy, Brian and Stewie had a grand adventure with the monies from their investments. Heading down to the Titanic wreckage to "pants" James Cameron was hilarious.

There's a lot that could be said about him being gutted the way he was, and I have to wonder if this scene was created before or after his moronic Wonder Woman comments.

Related: Family Guy Season 16 Episode 11 Review: Dog Bites Bear

The best part of the installment was Brian and Stewie dancing to Tom Cochrane's 1991 hit, "Life is a Highway."

How could you not feel good after hearing that song? Forget the Rascal Flatts version. This is the OG, people, and it's golden.

The Mixologist - Family Guy Season 16 Episode 15

Peter and the guys were just as busy as Stewie and Brian when they took over the Drunken Clam while Jerome was gone to care for his mother.

If Peter wasn't involved, the rest of them (even Cleveland) would be excellent bar owners.

The best of the bunch would be Quagmire mostly because he would be the most fun. I wouldn't mind going to one of his Trivia Nights. I wouldn't even cheat.

Related: Family Guy Season 16 Episode 6 Review: The D in Apartment 23

It was hilarious watching Joe claim to be a mixologist when the only drink he could put together was rum and Coke. It's like watching someone claim to be a sandwich artist when all they know how to make is peanut butter and jelly.

I didn't quite understand why Peter decided to bring a bull into the bar (other than pure stupidity), but it was awesome that, for a while, anyway, the bull was getting into Cochrane's hit. That song even made the bull feel good until it realized what Peter did to its testicles.

The Drunken Clam - Family Guy

And how could Peter not know who Bruno Mars is? I loved Cleveland's description of the artist.

This might be one of the few times I actually enjoyed Cleveland in an episode of Family Guy.

Cleveland: Peter, that's Bruno Mars.
Peter: Bruno Mars? Who's she?
Cleveland: She's a man. And he's not even black. He's a beautiful, mixed-up tomorrow person.

"The Woof of Wall Street" got us back to the world of Family Guy we know and love. It was funny, offensive and made us think.

There was plenty of commentary on Family Guy Season 16 Episode 16, so much, in fact, that it might take a couple of viewings to pick up on everything the show was trying to say, make fun of or slam.

Sometimes Family Guy likes to make you think, and this three-decade retrospective was one of those times.

1970s Drunken Clam - Family Guy Season 16 Episode 16

If there's one decade I'm glad I wasn't born in, it is the 1950s. It's such a slow and simple decade. It's easy to criticize the 1950s looking back from an era that is so technologically advanced.

There is so much wrong with that decade but also some things that weren't so bad.

Related: Explore Hundreds of Hours of Curated Historical Videos with History Vault via Amazon Channels!

It was a simpler time sure, but not having 500 channels and big-screen televisions made it easier to have quality family time (though Meg never seems to be part of the Griffin family anymore. When is the last time she even had a line or two on an episode of Family Guy?)

Families actually communicated and interacted with each other. Now, most of our time is spent communicating with a screen of some sort or another.

Women weren't respected much back then. It was okay to pretend to hit or threaten a woman (ala Honeymooners) for a laugh. Women who worked were looked down upon, and isn't it amazing that more than 50 years later there is still a disparity between the work and salaries of men and women?

Lois going to work just to get Peter a television was stupid but showed how women of that time were brainwashed into thinking that their only place in life was to please their husbands.

The 1950s - Family Guy

There was also the constant fear of the atomic bomb and that had to be very scary, but like Peter and Chris showed, it was an accepted part of people's daily lives.

If you had no frame of reference other than this segment of Family Guy, you'd think that everyone from that era was a complete dolt. From the ridiculously simple sci-fi shows to the Raisin Bran commercial that had to define every word it said from raisins to hunger, it was hilarious.

And one final note about the 50s segment -- the Trump apartments reference was hilarious.

I wasn't too much into the 1960s segment although I thought the big car was kind of funny as was Peter flipping through 10 channels complaining there was nothing on and completely ignoring Kennedy's assassination.

Television was taking hold of people with more programming but people kept wanting more and now we have so much TV we're almost overloaded. I mean, seriously, how much television can one person watch? If I wanted to watch all the television I'd love to, I wouldn't be doing much of anything else.

The 1970s segment was the best of the bunch.

The Drunken Clam as a disco joint was great, but Peter, Joe and Cleveland slicing throats with their sharp collars was hilarious.

How is it that only Quagmire was the one who went to Vietnam and the others didn't? And who didn't love the proud Americans who showed their support of Quagmire's sacrifice by spitting in his face?

Wheaties Boy - Family Guy Season 16 Episode 16

And it's true, isn't it, that the same songs are played over and over and over again when it has to do with he Vietnam War as if those were the only songs that defined that part of history?

There were so many different parts of the 70s. Disco and hippies and the Vietnam War almost seem like they couldn't possibly intersect, but they all existed in the same timeframe -- sort of.

Related: Family Guy Season 16 Episode 15 Review: The Woof of Wall Street

Disco hit its height in the mid-70s and the Vietnam War ended in 1975. What's always amazing to me is that Zeppelin and the Stones were belting out songs at the same time lots of other people were doing the hustle.

How come Family Guy didn't hit on the groovy rock and roll that helped define that era?

Instead, Family Guy did their parody of Hair and that was okay. It was good enough to make me want to rent the movie or at least download "Let the Sunshine In" because that was such a groovy song.

Was Family Guy worthy of a series of being on the air for 60 years?

That was examined on Family Guy Season 16 Episode 16 in a special retrospective episode that looked back at some of the biggest things that have happened throughout the years.

Much of the events, of course, were fabricated because of the increased time frame for the series.

However, the cast and crew gave some insight of their own into the decisions.

Are we too dependent on technology?

After Brian becomes addicted to "Brandi" (aka "Alexa") on Family Guy Season 16 Episode 17 pushing him further into loserhood, Stewie thinks he can change Brian's life by swapping bodies with him.

Stewie always has Brian's best interests at heart, but sometimes he's way too smart for his own good.

Stewie Takes Over - Family Guy Season 16 Episode 17

Brian hit it on the nose when he warned Stewie that his machines always seem to fail at the worst time, but it didn't stop the two from swapping bodies so that Stewie could turn Brian's life around.

Or at least try. Once a loser, always a loser.

Stewie couldn't do anything to help Brian out, and his little venture into Freaky Friday territory ended up causing havoc throughout Quahog.

Brian was the first one to complain about our dependence on technology, but it didn't take him long to become addicted to Family Guy's version of Alexa.

I think the whole idea of Alexa is creepy. For some people, it's essentially taken the place of another person. Why bother interacting with people when you can interact with a machine?

It's just one more step towards complete isolation.

Brian: There was a time, not to long ago, when people would talk with each other.
Peter: Yeah, the bad time. The sucky ages.
Brian: Our society is doomed. People and technology are a bad match. Just like moms and Radiohead.

Our society is in a sad state. Stores are closing left and right because of technology and mega stores like Amazon which has become a one-stop shop for everything. Is there anything you can't get on Amazon?

Related: Family Guy Season 16 Episode 6 Review: The D in Apartment 23

Now, Amazon's solved another problem. Feeling lonely and lazy? Just get yourself an Alexa app, and you'll have a forever friend.

Body Swapping - Family Guy

Stewie realized that his friend needed to change his life. I'm surprised Stewie didn't think of creating a body swapping machine sooner.

Brian was excited at the thought that Stewie would turn his loser life around, but not even Stewie could work miracles.

It didn't take Stewie long to realize that being Brian wasn't easy and that no matter how he tried, there wasn't any hope for Brian having a successful life.

Related: Family Guy Season 16 Episode 10 Review: Boy (Dog) Meets Girl (Dog)

But if Stewie thought it was going to be easy just to switch back bodies, he had another thing coming. Leave it to Peter to screw things up.

Being in Brian's body was bad, but having to be Peter was even worse -- especially because it was the weekend Peter and Lois were going to a sex seminar.

Body Swapping - Family Guy Season 16 Episode 17

I loved how cool Chris was with the whole body swapping thing, but where was Meg? I know I've asked this before, but is she even part of the Griffin family anymore?

I would have loved to have seen her switch bodies with someone. Quagmire would have been a good switch for her. It would have been more tasteful than Glen switching bodies with a guinea pig.

Quagmire is a bigger pervert than I ever imagined. Why would he need a guinea pig when he has women throwing themselves at him left and right?

Whatever. That's not even the point.

Loser Brian - Family Guy Season 16 Episode 17

I can't imagine what it would be like to end up stuck in someone else's body. It might be fun for a while, but I'd rather be in my own skin. Still, it would allow for a better perspective of what someone else is experiencing, and that's what Stewie realized when he swapped bodies with Brian.

It's not easy being someone you're not.

It was funny that Brian finally got his ultimate wish when he ended up in Peter's body. You'd think he would have spent a little more than three minutes in bed with Lois.

He could have made a whole night of it, but it showed Brian's true nature -- he's selfish and immature. Even if Stewie had gotten him a job and a girlfriend, it wouldn't have changed Brian's essence.

Related: Family Guy Season 16 Episode 16 Review: Family Guy Through the Years

It's not that people can't change, but it takes a hell of a lot of effort to change your life.

And if you don't have to interact with other people because you have a friend like Alexa, what would be the point of making a significant change?

The answer is there is there is no point.

My favorite part was when Brian was in the bar, and the hooker took him into the bathroom. Brian's reaction to what she was about to do to him was hilarious.

What was your favorite part?

Do you agree with Brian that we are too dependent on technology? Are apps like Alexa taking the place of real friends?

Would you switch bodies with anyone? Who?

Did Brian get his life in order before it was too late?

That was the big question on Family Guy Season 16 Episode 17 when Stewie offered to swap bodies with him on a short-term basis.

Loser Brian - Family Guy Season 16 Episode 17

However, things took a crazy turn and it emerged that the two could be stuck in their new bodies.

With the machine glitching and making things in Quahog a little bit crazy, they had to find a way to get accustomed to their new lives.

Family Guy Season 16 Episode 18 Review: HTTPete

Family Guy should have made Family Guy Season 16 Episode 18 a Six Second Episode because that's about all the time it took for me to become completely bored with Hammer and the Millennial saga.

Every piece of commentary made about Millennials and their many, many issues as well as our addiction to the Internet is stuff that has already been done and said before.

The Millennial Lifestyle - Family Guy

Still, watching Peter transform into a Millennial after trying vaping was funny. Getting schooled by Hammer on the ways of Millennialism was even funnier.

The great thing about Peter is that it doesn't take him long to catch on to something new. He would be perfect cult material because he's so easily influenced. Can you imagine Peter in a cult? That would be hilarious.

But he's also a dumbass which is why we love him so much.

He was the logical choice to become Pawtucket Brewery's new Social Media Manager after Hammer's untimely demise.

I like that Family Guy didn't use another actress to voice Angela even though Angela was at the meetings and Hammer's funeral.

It was weird not having her speak, but it would have been disrespectful to Carrie Fisher's memory to have anyone else play that role -- I think anyway -- so kudos to Family Guy for not going that route.

Peter being Social Media Manager after spending only a few days with Hammer was ridiculous, but who says an old dog can't learn new tricks.

Selfies with Hammer - Family Guy Season 16 Episode 18

As annoying as he was, Hammer was a decent teacher -- and, well, being a Millennial doesn't take that much effort either which is right up Peter's alley.

It was too bad Peter changed from his Millennial-wear back to his regular clothes after Hammer died because I would have loved to have seen the reaction of the guys to Peter's Millennial look.

Quagmire would have had a field day. Despite his own addictions, he still the only one with any sense in the group. And he's still the smartest of the bunch.

As he pointed out, the youth of today has no attention span, but what he forgot to say is that it's no longer just the young folks that have attention span issues.

We all do. The majority of us are addicted to our screens whether it's our phones or our computers or our tablets. Our faces are always interacting with something other than a person. That's the norm and it's not going to change.

When Peter went into a server room instead of the gender neutral bathroom he was supposed to go into and inadvertently destroyed the Internet it should have woken everyone up. The fog of staring at a screen all day should have lifted, but instead, not having the Internet created chaos.

If you think about it, even if you aren't a screen starer, not having the internet is a scary thought.

Six Seconds - Family Guy Season 16 Episode 18

Think about how much our lives have changed because of the internet, and how much it has become a part of everything we do in our daily lives. Not having the internet would cause chaos like it did in the streets of Quahog.

Millennials wouldn't be the only ones going crazy. Everyone would be.

They'd be the worse off because they wouldn't know what to do with themselves, but we'd all be affected if the internet came crashing down.

We're all addicted to it, and it permeates every aspect of our life -- including something as inane as Uber. Who catches rides in cabs anymore? Seriously.

Peter was lucky that he didn't get strung up alive for destroying the internet, but he tried his best to bring it back around without the use of technology.

It didn't work very well.

One of the greatest (and possibly funniest) moments of the installment was when Peter brought in a group of black teens for a burn loop after making a mean comment to Joe about his useless feet.

I don't know if you were supposed to laugh at that lest you offend someone, but I laughed. The combination of the diss and the loop was just too much.

"HTTPete" wasn't the greatest, but it got its message across -- and even a little slap in the face to Matt Damon for his support of Harvey Weinstein -- and that's what Family Guy is all about.

Over to you.

Did the bar manage to attract a much younger clientele?

That was the plan on Family Guy Season 16 Episode 18 when it emerged that the bar was no longer making money and the guys tried to help out.

This involved Peter adopting the millennial lifestyle and his methods soon found him on the radar of a high-powered Silicon Valley executive.

But who did not like Peter's success and wanted to make some changes?

A parent's love knows no bounds as Quagmire learned on Family Guy Season 16 Episode 19 after he lost his penis in a shark attack.

It was more than a little weird that Quagmire was willing to have his dad's member transplanted to him, but for a guy whose life revolves around his penis, it makes perfect sense.

Living Without It - Family Guy

The fact that Ida saved his penis also raises eyebrows since why keep something that you were so desperate to rid yourself of? Maybe Ida explained it, and I missed it, but I just don't get it.

And, of course, the logic of being able to actually transplant a penis that had been unused and frozen for so long is another story, but we'll just go along with the fantasy.

I was expecting Quagmire to be much more frantic than he actually was when it happened, but he was pretty chill about it. He was probably in shock.

Related: Renewal Scorecard 2018-19: What's Coming Back?

Still, I can't get over the fact that he would be so willing to take on his dad's penis. If it was that easy to transplant them, why wouldn't he try to find one that didn't belong to his own father?

Quagmire's got enough money that he could probably pick and choose one that would fit his needs, but is penis transplants even a thing?

I just did a quick research and got lost for a few moments. There have only been a few transplants but there was a highly successful transplant that just happened last month at John Hopkins. It was quite a fascinating read.

Ventriloquist Quagmire - Family Guy Season 16 Episode 19

The effects of not having his penis eventually got to Quagmire. The idea of never having sex again was enough to send him over the edge, and he was ready to kill himself before the guy's intervened.

While the story of Quagmire's penis was odd, the story surrounding the penis loss was hilarious.

At first, I thought Peter trying to get the boat into the water was going to become another chicken fight or hurt knee scene, which I find incredibly stupid and not funny, but the wait was worth it when Peter just decided to drive the whole car into the lake to get the boat in there.

That was such a Peter thing to do.

And why would Cleveland even go on the water if he was going to turn into Gremlin city if he got wet? Cleveland is such a weird character.

Actually, Cleveland made me laugh a few times this episode. Or at least the ridiculous race references at the beginning with Good Times and at the hospital when Dr. Hartman told Peter the bad news that his friend was black.

The Boat - Family Guy Season 16 Episode 19

Quagmire wasn't a very good ventriloquist, but he was at that point where what happened finally pushed him to the edge.

What was Quagmire's life without having constant sex? He may be a successful pilot, but it's his extracurricular activities that truly defined him.

It made sense that he wanted to end it all, but lucky for him his friends stopped him from pulling the trigger before it was too late.

The handoff of the gun to Joe, Cleveland and then Peter with their individual thoughts was interesting. It wasn't surprising for Peter's thoughts to use the gun to get free tacos.

The other cutaway I really enjoyed was the one about the New York pizza guy. I'm from Chicago and, sorry, but nothing compares to Chicago pizza.

New York pizza pales in comparison, but I do understand the snobbery attached when you travel. It's a real thing.

There's nothing like hometown pizza when you're away, though there was a place when I visited New Orleans that surprised me with the quality of their pie.

But that's a rarity. It never happens like that.

The Golden Penis - Family Guy Season 16 Episode 19

Back to the story.

I hope that Quagmire doesn't start becoming weird now that he's got his dad's penis. He's sort of being weird already if he's telling women the real owner of his penis, but I also wonder if he's lying to the guys because didn't Dr. Hartman say he wasn't going to be able to urinate or have sex?

So what's the point of a transplant if you can't even use it? Maybe this episode was written before that miracle transplant occurred that I linked to at the beginning of this article.

The whole Mort story was dumb but I did like the Dr. Hartman revelation that he was taking on writing responsibilities for the show and showed us exactly how he liked to flex his writing muscle.

It was an odd installment of Family Guy, but it still succeeded at entertaining this viewer.

What happened to Quagmire's most treasured body part?
