Did Sean Penn manage to save Stewie?

That was addressed on Family Guy Season 15 Episode 6 when it emerged that Stewie had autism, but there were differing opinions about how to remove it from the young child.

Peter and Lois decided the only way to save him was to refrain from vaccinating him, so they convinced the rest of the town to do the same for their children.

25 Merry and Memorable Christmas Episodes

Tis the season!

Snowy days, cozy blankets, days off, a fire crackling in the fire place, the smell of pine in the air...

Christmas has a feel to it that no other holiday does. It truly is the most wonderful time of the year!

In honor of this sacred holiday, I've gathered 25 of the most memorable Christmas episodes on TV. Some are funny and make you laugh; some are heartfelt and leave you comforted; and some are terrifying and make you glad you weren't there.

I've recommended 25 episodes so you can watch one every day leading up to Christmas. If anyone actually does this, please let me know because that would be awesome! Otherwise, feel free to skip around or just pick and choose.

One more thing, there are bound to be Christmas episodes you think are missing so definitely let me know in the comments.

Now, enjoy reliving the Christmas memories of your favorite TV friends and family!

1. Dec. 1st: "The Bracebridge Dinner" - Gilmore Girls

The bracebridge dinner gilmore girls
We begin with Gilmore Girls since I know most of you are going through withdrawals after binge watching season 8 in one day. On this episode, Lorelai and Sookie plan an elaborate meal only to lose their guests when they’re snowed in so they decide to invite the town instead. Throughout the beautifully decorated festivities, Rory pretends she’s not interested in Jess, Luke pretends he’s not interested in Lorelai, and Lorelai’s parents get a much needed mini-vacation. You can watch the full episode on Netflix.

2. Dec. 2nd: "Santa Simulation" - The Big Bang Theory

A girl for koothrappali
It was hard to pick just one Christmas episode from The Big Bang Theory but this is my favorite because it has a girls night out, Raj and Amy sharing hilarious horror stories of dealing with the opposite sex and a soft side of Sheldon. On this episode, the guys plan a Christmas themed Dungeons and Dragons game where Santa is kidnapped. When the girls learn they're not allowed to play they get dressed up to show the guys what they're missing and go out for drinks. Raj ends up tagging along which provides some of the funniest moments of the episode. During the game, we learn that Sheldon hates Christmas because he asked Santa to bring his Pop Pop back from the dead when he was 5 and all he got was lincoln logs. You can watch the full episode on CBS All Access.

3. Dec. 3rd: "The Strike" - Seinfeld

The strike seinfeld
A Festivus for the rest of us! Kramer wants to resurrect the forgotten holiday which George's dad invented as an alternative to the commercialism of Christmas. We also find out Kramer's been on strike for 12 years and finally goes back to work at a bagel shop only to go on strike again when they refuse to give him time off for Festivus. Elsewhere on the episode, Elaine is trying to track down a guy she gave a fake number to because she accidently wrote it on the back of her free sub card and George creates a fake charity so he doesn't have to give Christmas gifts to his co-workers. It's a classic Seinfeld episode and one of the best of its last season. You can watch the full episode on Hulu.

4. Dec. 4th: "A Very Sunny Christmas" - It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

Very sunny christmas pic
Dennis and Dee are their usual whiny, entitled selves as they complain that Frank buys the presents they want and keeps them for himself. This year it’s a Lamborghini and a designer purse. Charlie and Mac reminisce about their childhoods which turn out to be horrific as Charlie discovers his mom was banging multiple “Santas” and Mac’s family was breaking into other people’s houses and stealing their presents. As usual the group is at their worst and it's awesome. Uplifting? No. Heartfelt? Not at all. The episode ends with them throwing rocks at trains because it’s really the only thing they have left to hold onto. You can watch the full episode on Hulu or Netflix.

5. Dec. 5th: "Christmas in the Car" - Bob's Burgers

Christmas in the car bobs burgers
This episode reminds me so much of 2001's Joy Ride. The Belchers head out on Christmas Eve to get a new tree after their first two die. While out, they cut off the driver of a candy cane truck who responds by chasing them. In their attempts to avoid him they end up spending Christmas Eve and the first few hours of Christmas in the car. Meanwhile, back at their house, Teddy stops by to turn off the oven and ends up stealing the episode. You can find current episodes of Bob's Burgers on Fox Now.

6. Dec. 6th: "The Best Chrismukkah Ever" - The OC

The best chrismukkah ever the oc
This episode will always be remembered for Summer's gift to Seth -- her in a Wonder Woman outfit. I mean, DAMN. The girl looked amazing. Anna was great but we all knew she didn’t stand a chance. Although Seth was forced to pick between the two girls, he will never have to choose between his mother’s waspy Christmas and his dad’s Jewish Hannukah because he created the best holiday ever – Chrismukkah. Eight days of presents followed by one day of many presents. The fact that it was Ryan’s first Christmas with the Cohens only made it that much more special. You can watch the full episode on Hulu.

15 Times TV Sent Us to an Alternate Reality

$

TV characters have fantasies, too. Or, maybe just nightmares. Or, maybe they just need to be shown the reality of the "what if..." question they just asked.

What if dogs ruled the earth? What if Superman never existed?

While we don't have the luxury of living in an alternate reality (even though sometimes we might want to), our favorite TV characters can and have.

Check out our list of times TV has taken us to an alternate reality.

Which is your favorite? What trip did we forget to include? What alternate reality would you like to visit? Let us know in the comments below!

1. Shadowhunters - "This World Inverted"

Shadowhunters this world inverted
During their hunt for Valentine, Clary and Jace get a tip from Meliorn about an alternate dimension. Clary dives right in and finds herself in a world where Valentine is a super duper kind of guy and Izzy and Simon are adorably nerdy. Demons don't exist here and neither do Shadowhunters. Oh, and Magnus is really into Mr. Rogers'-type sweaters.

2. Supernatural - "What is and What Should Never Be"

Supernatural what is and what should never be
What if Mary Winchester had never died? Life wouldn't be much fun without Sam and Dean and their monster hunting, that's for sure. In the episode, Dean is taken hostage by a djinn who feeds off his blood while sending him in a dream state where monster hunting doesn't rule the Winchester family. Never have we seen someone so happy to be cutting a lawn.

3. Castle - "The Time of Our Lives"

Castle the time of our lives
Imagine a life with no Caskett. Who can bear the thought? But, what would happen if Beckett and Castle never met? In this alternate reality hour, Castle never wrote the Nikki Heat books, because, duh, he never met Kate and squandered the rest of his fortune, Alexis is living with her mother, and everything else we loved was completely messed up.

Luckily, Castle found his way back to reality, and by the end of the epiosde we got ourselves a wedding.

4. Star Trek - "Mirror, Mirror"

Star trek mirror universe
Science fiction meets science fiction in this episode of Star Trek that finds Kirk, McCoy, Uhura and Scotty in an alternate universe after a transporter malfunction. They've landed on the Imperial Starship Enterprise which is part of the evil Galatic Empire and features a bearded Spock.

5. Twilight Zone - "The Parallel"

Twilight zone the parallel
Something's not quite right in astronaut Robert Gaines' world when he returns home from a space trip in this 1963 episode. Sure, he's still married to the same woman and has the same daughter, but he now lives in a house with pretty white picket fence and he's a corporal. With no recollection of how he landed on this alternate universe, he just knows he needs to get home and eventually he does.

6. Buffy the Vampire Slayer - "The Wish"

Buffy the vampire slayer the wish
What would happen if Buffy never made it to Sunnydale? Well, duh. It would be overcome with vampires, of course! Cordelia's wish comes true after she expresses it to a demon (unbeknownst to her,) and the world goes awry. Luckily, Giles figures it all out and soon the world returns to the way it should be!

Family Guy Season 16 Episode 1 Review: Emmy-Winning Episode

$
0
0

It's no surprise that Family Guy has never won an Emmy. If it ever did, the people who voted for it probably wouldn't be able to look themselves in the mirror the next morning.

It doesn't fit the criteria. It's not snobby, it doesn't have a deep social message to convey, and it lacks diversity.

But that doesn't matter to Peter. He wants the show to win an Emmy anyway and on Family Guy Season 16 Episode 1 he tries to fit the show into a mold it will never be able to conform to.

Posing For Their Win - Family Guy Season 16 Episode 1

Family Guy shouldn't complain too much. Though it hasn't been nominated as a show since 2009, it has won in other categories, most notably for Best Voice-Over Performance which Seth MacFarlane won again this year (that makes four for him).

Still, the Emmys are a funny thing. Most of the shows that win, I've never seen, and those I have seen don't hold my interest. I can't connect with them which probably means I'm a low cog on the totem pole of life and especially so since I find great pleasure in watching a show like Family Guy.

Like Peter says, it's the same shows that win over and over again. It's boring and still doesn't compel me to watch any of those shows.

The ethnic characters on these Emmy-winning shows aren't exactly rocket scientists are they?

Peter

But the Emmy is a prestigious award that looks good on your resume and on your living room shelf. And Peter wants one of them, so he comes up with a plan to copy award-winning shows to try and win one.

Peter Wants and Emmy - Family Guy Season 16 Episode 1

It takes on Modern Family (bringing in Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, and Sofia Vergara to guest voice) going so far as to show how ridiculous the award process is when Burrell is handed an Emmy for doing nothing but choking a rubber chicken.

It's great that some of the cast was willing to poke fun at themselves and their show.

This Emmy thing goes deep. The same people win year after year after year. It's like there's some kinda secret society that takes all the awards and is keeping us from getting one.

Peter

Though Family Guy didn't try to do an episode The Big Bang Theory style, I loved that it made the list. Chris playing Sheldon had me rolling. If you guys only knew how much I hate that show, you'd understand why I was so giddy to see it ripped apart in the way only Family Guy can do it.

I mean, what is the deal with people loving that show so much? I don't get it.

Peter goes through the gamut of Emmy-award winning shows to try to win the show the award but to no avail. He's finally contacted by Bill Maher (guest voiced by the man himself) who tells him about a secret society that is basically blacklisting Family Guy from ever getting a golden statue.

Love Triangle - Family Guy Season 16 Episode 1

When he gets home he finds members of this secret society, including Alec Baldwin and Julia Louis-Dreyfus, in his living room who tell him Family Guy is garbage. Shonda Rhimes tells him the show lacks diversity, and Aaron Sorkin says the show is the king of rip-offs and attempts to explain what "real" writing is.

Peter will never be part of the club, and isn't that what the Emmys are all about anyway? Being part of some exclusive club that only certain people can get into?

Isn't that going against everything the Emmys are supposed to represent? Where's the diversity when the same shows win over and over and over again?

And why do we have to be force-fed on what's a good show and what isn't? Don't we get enough of that with critics who tell us a show sucks when in actuality it's pretty darn good (e.g., The Orville)?

Speaking of diversity (way back a couple of paragraphs ago), one of my favorite parts this episode was the girl who told her friend they needed to consider diversity before continuing to watch a show.

Like all television viewers, our first priority before deciding to continue watching a show should be whether or not it features enough diversity.

Female TV Viewer

I love that Family Guy made a statement on the stupidity of that way of thinking. Shouldn't a show be watched for its enjoyment factor first? Am I a bad person if I don't check a show's diversity before I watch it? Or worse, actually like it?

Family Guy is always going to be Family Guy. It's crude and rude and funny as hell. It says the things we all wish we could say, but don't. That's what makes it so great. It doesn't need to win a ridiculous award to be relevant. It just needs to be itself.

What did you think of the season premiere of Family Guy? Did it make you laugh? What was your favorite part?

Family Guy Season 16 Episode 2 Review: Foxx in the Men House

It's a wonder Peter has any friends at all.

On Family Guy Season 16 Episode 2, Peter decides that the guys are too lame to be his friends after he meets a paramedic who he thinks is the epitome of cool.

Peter should be celebrating Quagmire, Cleveland, and Joe every chance he gets. They are the only people besides Lois who would ever tolerate his poor behavior.

Peter and Foxx - Family Guy Season 16 Episode 2

I wasn't particularly fond of this episode of Family Guy. The laughs were far and few between, and it was a bit of a disappointment after such a strong season opener.

Peter discovers women's bathrooms are nicer than men's when he's at a Japanese restaurant with the family. Any man would find women's bathrooms amazing because some of them are pretty darn nice.

The one he goes into has candles and flowers and probably smells better than any other bathroom he's entered. Peter is fascinated by this and decides to go on a women's bathroom tour trying out different bathrooms in the mall and elsewhere.

When he hits his head on the sink of one bathroom after sitting on the toilet too long, he wakes up to find himself being treated by an incredibly cool and handsome paramedic named Stryker Foxx.

Foxx doesn't ask any questions about why Peter was in the women's bathroom; he only offers him chicken fingers and margaritas. So we get Peter who sits on the toilet to binge watch a show with another guy bringing food into the bathroom.

Nice or not, it's still a bathroom, and that's the whole point. Men do weird things in the bathroom, and I'll never understand why they like to sit in there so long reading, watching TV, or doing whatever they do.

For Peter, it is probably like a vacation.

Useful Stewie - Family Guy Season 16 Episode 2

Peter and Stryker hit it off almost immediately, and that's when Peter decides that Quagmire, Cleveland, and Joe are just not cool enough for him. Peter is always trying to be something he's not.

He's never happy with who he is or what he's got. It's a shame because as dysfunctional as everything is in the Griffin household, Peter is a pretty lucky guy.

He's got great friends too, who even in his dream state decide to forgive him for being such an idiot. And that's what true friends do, right? They'll forgive all your idiocies because they love you for who you are.

One of the funniest parts of this whole episode is when Peter wears the wingsuit off the cliff, and Quagmire asks why he is wearing a douche suit. It says so much in so few words.

I mean who the hell goes wingsuiting anyway? I guess people who want to end up looking like bowls of tomato soup. The grilled cheese joke is gross but funny in a way only Family Guy can pull off.

Peter Gets His Groove On - Family Guy Season 16 Episode 2

Other moments that elicit smiles, like Peter getting slopped by his own vomit on the one loop roller coaster and Meryl Streep getting an Oscar for the "Stay Out of  My Crapper" bit, but most everything else is forgettable, much like the Stewie pedophile joke.

Why would anyone find any humor in something like that? I'm not being prudish, people, I just don't see anything funny about it.

Almost everything related to Stewie makes me laugh (like texting Lois about hamburgers and meatballs), but the pedophile joke is unnecessary.

Is the Kathleen Turner joke supposed a reference to her incredible weight gain (the reason she's stealing people's stromboli's) or am I reading too much into that? Either way, it isn't funny, just stupid as sometimes Family Guy can be.

And is the NBA cutaway recycled? I seem to recall seeing that one before. What is that about?

Oh, and the George Clooney bit; loved it! If Clooney is the second worst Batman, who is the first? I know who my vote would be. How about you guys?

It's bothersome that sometimes Family Guy is so inconsistent. It's not that I expect to laugh for an entire 20 minutes, but at least make it worthwhile.

What do you guys think about "Foxx in the Men House"? What makes you laugh? What falls flat? Is it time for Family Guy to say goodbye?
